Bloomstack ("we," "our," or "us") develops SonicType, a macOS application for voice dictation. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use our app.
Privacy First: Everything Stays on Your Mac
SonicType is designed with privacy as a core principle. All voice processing, transcription, and grammar correction happens entirely on your device using Apple's Neural Engine. We do not collect, transmit, or store any of your voice recordings or transcriptions.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information We Do NOT Collect
SonicType does not collect:
- Voice recordings or audio data
- Transcribed text or corrected text
- Personal information (name, email, etc.)
- Usage analytics or telemetry
- Location data
- Device identifiers
- Any data transmitted to external servers
1.2 Local Data
SonicType stores the following data locally on your Mac:
- AI Models: WhisperKit speech recognition models and MLX language models are downloaded from Hugging Face and stored in
~/Library/Application Support/SonicType/models/ - Settings: Your preferences (hotkey configuration, language settings, etc.) are stored locally
This data never leaves your device.
2. How Voice Processing Works
2.1 On-Device Processing
When you use SonicType:
- Audio is captured from your microphone
- WhisperKit processes the audio locally using Apple's Neural Engine
- The MLX language model corrects grammar locally
- Text is pasted into your active application
- Audio data is discarded immediately after processing
At no point is your audio or text sent to any server.
2.2 Model Downloads
The first time you use SonicType, AI models are downloaded from Hugging Face. This is the only network activity the app performs. After the initial download, SonicType works completely offline.
3. Third-Party Services
3.1 Hugging Face
AI models are downloaded from Hugging Face's model repository. This download is a one-time operation and only transfers the model files, not your personal data. See Hugging Face's privacy policy: https://huggingface.co/privacy
3.2 Apple App Store
If you download SonicType from the Mac App Store, Apple handles the download and any purchase transactions according to their privacy policy: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/
4. Data Security
Since all processing happens locally on your Mac:
- Your voice data cannot be intercepted in transit (it never leaves your device)
- There are no servers that could be breached
- Your data is protected by your Mac's built-in security features
5. Permissions
SonicType requires the following macOS permissions:
- Microphone: Required to capture your voice for transcription
- Accessibility: Required to paste text into other applications and register global hotkeys
You can modify these permissions in System Settings > Privacy & Security at any time.
6. Children's Privacy
SonicType does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13.
7. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy.
